During his last three weeks in Tokyo, Tezuka shared memorable moments with Fuji. He recalled their early mornings when they walked to school, tennis practices, lunch breaks on the rooftop, and walked home together after school. Those were comfortable and relaxed moments they shared together as true friends.

Since that rainy afternoon and hot tea at Fuji's, there was an unspoken understanding between the two of them. Nothing else needed to be said. For they understood and accepted. He realized his feelings for Fuji, and Fuji seemed to be ecstatic about his own discovery.

As he looked back, Tezuka wondered about their assumed silent understanding. Tezuka didn't question Fuji’s absence from the airport at his last day in Tokyo. He understood his decision to stay away, since he couldn't restrain his need to touch and hold Fuji, just like they did the night before. Just like the other moments they shared, they both assumed that there was the unspoken understanding.

The night before he left Tokyo, Tezuka kissed Fuji. It was awkward and unexpected, but Fuji responded to his kiss. Both surrendered to the intimacy of the moment and in the end, left all stirred-up. Fuji’s bewildered look confused Tezuka and after leaving Fuji house, as he layed on his bed, he wondered. He recalled every minute they shared and attempted to figure out what had gone wrong. When he was unable to decipher Fuji’s reaction, he felt some uncertainty harrowing inside him. Tezuka got confused and felt unsure about everything.

It has been two weeks since he left Tokyo, but Tezuka continued to stay up late at night. He sat in front of his computer and waited for an instant message window to pop up. There has been no communication from Fuji. A week passed Tezuka felt discomposed over Fuji’s absence in the airport and the absence of any communication from his end. He was not exempted from blame either. Since his arrival in Germany, he only contacted his Vice-Captain Oishi and no one else.

Five days earlier, he finally decided to send Fuji an offline invitation to his Yahoo IM list. The following day, he received an offline notice, which indicated that “Syuusuke” accepted his online IM invitation and that “Kunimitsu” was now on “Syuusuke’s” IM list. Syuusuke was never online, and Tezuka seemed befuddled by this situation.

It was close to 3:00 am, six days since the IM connection. Fuji remained offline. Tezuka was no longer interested in continuing the silent game and decided to leave Fuji an offline message.
