There was one benefit to being a member of the elite group of palace guards who would be having a whole week of rest and recreation away from the palace. After weeks of witnessing the crown prince 's nuances and indiscreet activities, he couldn’t wait to get away from the environment he’s in, most especially after the one night he shared with the prince himself, being his lover for the night.
Weeks passed. Fuji hoped for another night with him, but it didn’t happen at all. Instead, it was days and nights of constantly watching him from a distance. The crowned prince would still glance at him randomly, with stern brown eyes, the hint of a smile gone from the stoic face and there was quite a measured space kept between them when royalty happened to pass by his assigned position.
Fuji with eyes closed, hiding his own emotions behind a masked smile, summoned every ounce of a wall he could manage to build around him in order for him not to fall. He stood straight and in attention at all times, as a royal guard should while on duty. Despite the constantly closed eyes, he’s aware of his surrounding, always focused on the crowned prince and prepared every second to protect the one man he was duty-bound to keep safe.
When that last minute of his work schedule expired, his replacement in the position, he withdrew himself from his assigned spot and walked away from the madness his heart longed to escape from. Quickly, Fuji divested himself of his royal blue uniform, changed into his commoner’s clothing and exited from the palace grounds running like an escaped convict into the familiar hassle and bustle of normal life.
It was early dawn, when he finally reached the train station where he would take the first scheduled trip to the far side of the Kingdom, an hour ride by train to his home in Chenzu. By the time he gets off from the train, he will be minutes away from the ocean, just in time to view the sunrise, his favorite time of each day, he missed three weeks out of the month, working in the palace.
Chenzu was a rural town by the ocean. It was a live and busy one due to its thriving fishing community. Majority of the families lived in Chenzu all their life, as fishermen and market vendors. Out- of –town folks came in droves to purchase the fresh bounty captured daily from the sea. Fuji’s family owned the bed and breakfast cottages located by the ocean, catering to visitors from the inner cities wanting to experience a stress-free and simple living, a rural fishing community could offer.
Fuji loved Chenzu, lately he wished he didn’t leave his hometown, for his dream of being an elite palace guard. Most strongly now, after experiencing how wonderful it was to be held and loved by the crown prince himself, something he wished he could experience once more, but he knew it would only be a dream, an unreachable dream.
“Syuusuke, you’re back!” a joyful melodious voice called out once Fuji entered the busy center of his hometown.
“Neesan, yes I'm here!” Fuji responded. The warm ocean breeze blew, the sound of sea gulls cranking from above as the birds searched intently for first catch of the day.
Fuji’s older sister gave him a welcome hug which the petite honey haired man responded by hugging his loving sister back. “Oh I missed you Neesan! Is everyone home this week?” Fuji inquired.
“Yuuta will be arriving at noon. Mom and dad just got back from their trip to the city, with their huge purchases as usual for the guests coming this week.” Fuji’s sister – Yumiko reported. “Saeki called, he said he is coming this week for a visit. He asked for you, Syuusuke.” Yumiko nudged his younger brother teasingly.
Fuji smiled. Blue eyes glinted. “Great, we can finally have a decent game of beach volleyball!” In the back of his mind, he thought, “A distraction, hopefully enough to stop my heart from thinking of him.”
They continued their lively conversation as they strolled along the cobblestone path towards the center, slowly disappearing into the crowd of vendors preparing their display stands, filling it with dew-covered produce, picked fresh each morning from their farms. The fishing boats were now anchored at the bay side, and the morning catch hauled out to be weighed and iced, early buyers viewing the catch, hoping for a good selection once the bidding wars begin.

Back in the royal palace, the crowned prince awakens. His first thoughts were of one handsome palace guard. He's looking forward to seeing as soon as he retreats from the sanctuary of his royal bedroom.
He constantly reminisced the one night when he held Fuji wantonly and without inhibition, in his arms. Loving each second he spent with him, Tezuka wished he could have Fuji next to him once more. After that one night, he appeared to have other indelicate meetings with random women, but it was nothing but show... to dull any suspicions of that one night, he disappeared into a hotel suite with Fuji in tow.
It was not an easy thing to plan. It took him months to make Fuji discreetly aware of his interest. As crowned prince he couldn’t openly ask him for a date, his trusted royal guard, but his desire for Fuji was something he never felt for anyone before, not for a woman or for any man, just for Fuji.
Tezuka closed his eyes, recalling every moment they shared. He could still feel the soft lips, hear his sensual moans each time he touched him, teased and kissed him, how Fuji responded to his every move, so delicious and overwhelming. He thought taking him for one night was enough to satisfy his need for him. However, after that one night, came the longing, the yearning, the endless dreams of the passion they shared, his desire despite being physically realized, only made him want Fuji more.
“What kind of deep feeling is this?” He wondered. He never imagined he would fall for a man, but he did, not just any man. His heart yearned for the one and only Fuji Syuusuke.
Tezuka dressed in his usual royal attire, finally opened the door to the outer room and with a slight smile in his eyes. He hoped to catch Fuji’s blue eyes as he planned to greet his favorite palace guard but to his surprise, Fuji wasn’t in his assigned spot. He turned to look at the other guards, and Fuji was nowhere at all. Annoyed somewhat, and he didn’t quell to hide such emotion when he shot a glare at the guard on duty as he asked for the security roster to be sent right away for his review. He turned towards the atrium where he intended to have his breakfast that morning, his parents and grandfather away on holiday by the ocean for the week left Tezuka on his own.
Truly annoyed, he hoped to plan a rendezvous with Fuji, but with the roster at hand, he discovered, Fuji’s week off started early in the morning.
Tezuka heaved a sigh. “Get hold of yourself.” He knew his place. He is the crowned prince as much as he despised the entrapment of such position his duty came first above all.
Yet sometimes he wonders if his heart will ever have the chance to be happy again. Alone on his own, only now with deep longing and yearning to be with Fuji...but it seems like an unreachable reality for him.
