Memories
Supposed to fade
What's wrong with my heart?
Shake it off, let it go
Didn't think it be this hard
Should be strong
Moving on
But i see you
Sometimes i try to hide
What i feel inside
Tell me why
You're so hard to forget
Don't remind me
I'm not over it
Tell me why
I can't seem to face the truth
I'm just a little too not over you

Saeki wondered how his friend Fuji had been doing lately. His last conversation with his childhood friend was abruptly ended, figuring it had something to do with Fuji's roommate, Tezuka Kunimitsu. He thought of surprising his former rival by showing up to their apartment unannounced, but he didn’t think Tezuka would appreciate his sudden appearance without invitation.
They used to take walks early in the morning on the shoreline, waiting for the sunrise while leaving markings in the sand. The sand used to show two sets of footprints and two lines alongside, imprinted by the stick they would drag while walking by the shore. The numerous adventures they came up with, their discussions and arguments, the secrets they shared, the kiss. All these memories flooded his mind since the last time he spoke with Syusuke. He missed his friend. Fuji belonged to Tezuka now, he knew the stoic claimed his heart since middle school but before Tezuka, he was the one Fuji laid his eyes on. They shared a history as well, childhood friendship, first love maybe. Saeki knew it could’ve been just him, a one-sided love for another boy.
When Fuji visited Chiba during the summer, Saeki stayed away. Since his friend was with Tezuka the whole time. After a couple weekends, their visits stopped and Saeki came to discover, Fuji found another place to share with Tezuka which was in Bozo.
He wondered if Fuji’s memory of their time together was something he couldn’t set aside, to be in Chiba and not see him may have been too hard to handle. Of course, there were unfounded assumptions on his part, Fuji’s happy and very much in love with Tezuka, there’s no questioning the fact.
The days he shared with Fuji were far and long gone. Just like the lines and footprints in the sand, the imprint he left in Fuji’s heart had long been erased.
The voice message left by Saeki made Fuji wonder if his friend sought something he could no longer entertain. It could have been his wrong doing really, in his attempt to make Tezuka jealous. He might have led Saeki to think about their past and hoped for something rekindled between the two of them. Tezuka listened to the message as well, there was no sense hiding it from him. Tezuka teased Fuji to no end but eventually told him to fix the situation.
He would do it, immediately if he could. Fuji just didn’t know how without hurting Saeki again.
