Title: Even in Her Sleep

Summary: Selkie’s attempts to draw Lydia back to him, in her dream.

Edward finally caught Selkie as he padded quietly towards the bedroom window. The water horse fairy managed to enter the fairy doctor’s dream world and spent time with Lydia while she peacefully slept.

The ash mauve eyes darkened with jealousy, even though Selkie stepped aside to allow his relationship to flourish with Lydia, the devious fairy would once in awhile invade their privacy and Lydia’s sleep.

“You need to stop this,” the Earl ordered.

Selkie smirked, amused than ashamed for getting caught in the middle of his blatant intrusion.

“Well, well, well,” the sprite began his awkward response, “I thought I could get away with it.”

“She’s my wife Selkie,” Edward pressed on, “Lydia’s mine.”

Selkie slumped down his broad shoulders as he propped himself on the settee by the window, the smirk gone from his handsome face. “I know that,” he replied, “even in her dreams, she thinks of no one but you.” The fairy’s dark eyes showed his dejection as he spoke and frowned upon seeing Edward beamingly smile at his reply.

Selkie wasn’t angry or jealous anymore, but didn’t hide his frustration. The sprite loved the fairy doctor and kept his hopes for a possible future with her but seeing the reality of her resolute affection for the Earl, Selkie accepted his defeat.

“You could visit when she’s awake,” Edward responded kindly, “I think Lydia would prefer that as well, you are part of my family now. But I would appreciate it, if you stayed out of our private chamber.”

“What fun would that be,” Selkie jostled, “maybe next time I’ll enter your dream and tell Lydia all about it.”

“Selkie,” Edward complained, “you’re incorrigible!”

“The animal in me, I guess,” Selkie bantered, “can’t change that.”
