Misstep: Without words spoken….

Fuji gazed at the tennis captain, still smiling despite the overwhelming emotion enveloping him at the moment.  The extent to which Tezuka submitted himself to appease him of his worries was beyond the expectations he anticipated.  The Seigaku regulars gathered at Kawamura's right after training for dinner and some after school team bonding.

He did not plan to give Tezuka wasabi sushi for dinner, but the tennis captain sitting next to him, downed the spicy rolls.  Tezuka kept his wall of seriousness while he subjected himself to another of Fuji's whims.  The blue-eyed boy knew he went over the top with his wiles. The pleasure from seeing Tezuka complying with his sanctions, not once materialized.  Fuji quietly ate the rolls and with each bite, his guilt weighed heavier in his heart.

Fuji,” the tennis player spoke, “I hope you are pleased.”

The honey-haired teen forced a smile, “Sushi is always fresh at Taka-san's,” he replied.

“Ah,” Tezuka uttered as he quickly reached for the cup of tea next to his emptied plate.  The other team members appeared to have their fill, except for Momoshiro who bellowed over Echizen eating all the tuna rolls.

Tezuka felt the burning in his stomach and his exhaustion slowly taking over, he needed to go home.  He eyed the teen next to him and caught the open gaze focused on him that seemed to be for quite some time.  Although
Fuji continued with a cheerful facade he saw the sadness enveloping the honey-haired teen, maybe it was exhaustion as well.  The day had been quite a challenge for both of them.

Tezuka felt a need to be alone with him.

He saw Fuji's eyes glimmered, “Let's walk home together?” and the question verbalized his exact thought.

“Uhmm,” he answered with a nod.

They followed the usual route from Kawamura's place, strolling in silence, enjoying the ambiance and beauty offered by the bright-silvery moon and myriads of twinkling stars gazing down at them. Fuji loved Tokyo nights like this one.  The night made even more beautiful with Tezuka ambling beside him.

He had so many things he wanted to say, something deep inside surged, and he fell short of words to express its enormity. He knew, in his mind, it had something to do with the bespectacled-teen next to him. The questions kept popping in his head. He needed answers or maybe for some assurance that he was enough for Tezuka.  The truth of the matter – his amorous feelings - he did not want to let go, but Fuji found himself wavering due to his sprouting uncertainty.

He was in love with his friend, his tennis captain, a man.

He gazed up in the heavens, marveling in the vast spectrum of glittering stars. The cool breeze fluttering his hair carried the sweet scent of pine.  From a distant, he heard the tune of an English song sweetly flowing. The lyrics so appropriately sang the bursting feelings from his heart.

“Stars when you shine

You know how I feel

Scent of the pine

You know how I feel

This very night, perfectly orchestrated for him and without his scheming.

Without looking,
Fuji reached for Tezuka’s hand close to his own.  He may not have the words to say, but his actions could speak louder than any words he could ever speak.  Seconds past, his smile grew wider. Tezuka held his hand tightly. Fuji heard the heavy sigh coming from him. He paused and turned to look at the taller man. Tezuka turned away but not soon enough. Fuji caught sight of the reddish tinge spreading on his captain's face.  With his other hand, he gently cupped the warm-blushing cheek.

Tezuka gleamed at him warmly, and
Fuji moved closer.

“Kiss m…,”

The honey-haired teen didn't need to say any more. He surely knew now, the intense feeling in his heart was shared by Tezuka as well.

*hugs back* Fuji is a naughty boy, but we don't have to pity Tezuka. He will enjoy it, in the end XD
